Excited fans screamed when the Bollywood playback singer Shantanu Mukherjee, commonly known as Shaan, took to the stage at the Parklands Sports Club a few minutes to 10pm.
This was a Saturday like no other as the gifted singer featured Sunny Leone, a dancer and film actress of the Indian cine world who gave a performance worth of every shilling on her first tour of Africa and indeed Kenya.
The packed, glittering, dome-shaped tent was packed with an estimated 1,500 enthusiasts in attendance. The décor, glittering Indian fashion, pulsating music and flashing lights were straight out of a Bollywood film set in India.
It was the culmination of a day that began with a media briefing at a Nairobi hotel during which Shaan, Sunny Leone and actor Gaurav Chopraa gave their fans a hint of what to expect in the evening.
Shaan and Sunny acknowledged Kenya’s diverse and well-endowed beauty saying they would consider shooting a movie or recording their music videos in the country, especially at the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
Sunny revealed that she was deeply impressed with Kenya’s wildlife especially the Big Five, which she saw for the first time.
The Shaan Sunny Concert which was sponsored by Wananchi Group’s home entertainment and communication brand Zuku, lived up to its hype and exceeded expectations.
“Zuku programming has some of the best Asian content and sponsoring the Shaan Sunny Concert is an affirmation of our support for the development of music, movies and talent. Shaan started singing for Bollywood at the age of 17. His ability to hold and entertain audiences globally is remarkable and he has sung his way into the hearts of music lovers all over the world in more than 10 languages across different genres like pop, jazz, ghazals, hip-hop and rock.
Sunny, the dancing diva, has bagged a number of Bollywood film roles with prestigious banners in a relative short time since her move to Bollywood from the United States.
